This is our guild recipe book.  Any recipe that was popular at our potlucks will be shown here, provided the creator doesn't object.  Any member that has a recipe they'd like to share, please email or give it to the webmistress at the next guild meeting.

Sweet Temptations

Rhubarb Bread


1 1/2 c brown sugar
2/3 c oil
1 egg
1 c milk, soured with 1 tbsp vinegar
1 tsp salt
1 tsp baking soda
1 tsp vanilla
2 1/2 c flour
1 1/2 c fresh, rhubarb, diced
1/2 nuts, chopped  (optional)


TOPPING
1/2 c brown sugar
1 tbsp butter

Oven @ 350
Mix bread ingred. in order given.
Pour into 1 large or 2 small greasd loaf pans. ( I used a bundt pan)
Mix butter and sugar together to form topping and sprinkle over top of batter. Bake about 1 hour. Do not overbake.

'Twice Baked' Traditional Italian Biscotti Print E-mail
Sweet Temptations

In a large mixing bowl, beat together in this order:

  • 1/2 cup butter
  • 1 cup white sugar
  • 2 tbsp anise seeds
  • 2 tbsp liqueur (such as amaretto)
  • 1-1/2 tbsp whiskey
  • 3 eggs

In another bowl, mix gently together:

  • 2-3/4 cups all purpose flour
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 1 cup coarsely chopped almonds

Thanks to Bev Scholte, who sent this recipe for one of her grandmother's "Railroad Cakes" - able to stand up to the thumping of trains passing. Her grandmother, Nellie Watson, lived beside the railway tracks in Stayner circa 1915!
